Not many people know about this feature, but Instagram actually has a messenger built right into the app. It's called Instagram Direct and it lives at the top-right corner of the app, in your Home tab. If you want a more complete social networking experience for your Instagram friends and followers, a great third-party app called InstaMessage is basically a social network built solely around Instagram users. You can create your own separate InstaMessage profile complete with your own status updates and social awards.

Plus, since you log in with Instagram, you can message or invite users to join the conversation and browse through Instagram photos right from InstaMessage. The app will also show you who is online and nearby so you can strike up a conversation pretty quickly.

With InstaMessage, you can send private photos, messages or even voice recordings. How to Download and Install Instagram++?

In order to install Instagram++ on a device that isn't jailbroken, you have to download the Instagram++ and then sideload it via AltStore or any similar tool.

Before you begin, you have to delete the original Instagram app before Instagram++ can be installed.

1. First, download and install AltStore on your computer and device. For full instructions, read our guide here.
2. On your iOS device, open Safari and visit this page to download the Instagram++ IPA. You can download the IPA by clicking the 'Download IPA' button on the page.
3. Once downloaded, open AltStore on your device. From the tabs at the bottom of the app, tap on the My Apps tab.
4. Now press the + icon in the top left corner to add a new app. You'll see a list of all the IPA files that you downloaded with Safari. Tap on the Instagram++ IPA that you downloaded earlier.
   • Note: if it's your first time using AltStore, you'll be prompted to enter your Apple ID and password. This is sent to Apple to generate a signing certificate to install the app.
5. AltStore will begin installing the app and the process takes a couple of minutes to finish. Once it's installed, it will appear on the My Apps page and you can open it from there or from the Home screen.
